New Beginnings and How to Embrace them
Reflections on Pursuing Dreams and Overcoming Challenges As I approach my 53rd birthday on January 4th, I find myself in a contemplative mood, reflecting on the whirlwind of experiences and changes that have defined my life over the past few years. The journey I have embarked upon has been nothing short of transformative, marked by significant milestones, unexpected challenges, and invaluable lessons. It is a story of resilience, adaptability, and the unwavering belief that it is never too late to pursue new dreams and aspirations.
In 2020, amidst a global pandemic that brought the world to a standstill, I made the bold decision to purchase a house in a new country and embark on a venture that seemed both daunting and exhilarating – starting a hotel business. Little did I know that this decision would set in motion a series of events that would redefine my understanding of what it means to embrace change and step outside one's comfort zone. The process of buying a house and establishing a business was a daunting undertaking, particularly at an age when many individuals are contemplating retirement. However, I was fueled by a deep-seated belief in the transformative power of new beginnings and the endless possibilities that life has to offer. It was a testament to the ageless wisdom of C.S. Lewis's words – "You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream." In the midst of these monumental changes, an unexpected opportunity arose – the chance to move to the Ivory Coast, a vibrant and culturally rich country in West Africa. The prospect of relocating to a new continent, navigating a different way of life, and immersing myself in a culture vastly different from my own filled me with a blend of excitement and trepidation. As I made the transition, I experienced the phenomenon of culture shock firsthand, grappling with unfamiliar customs, languages, and societal norms. The move to the Ivory Coast coincided with the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, presenting an additional layer of complexity and uncertainty. Adapting to the new normal while acclimating to a foreign environment demanded a level of resilience and flexibility that I had never before known. Yet, it was through these challenges that I discovered the depths of my own capacity for growth and adaptation. Living in the Ivory Coast has been a profound lesson in embracing diversity, learning from others, and cultivating a deep appreciation for the richness of different cultural experiences.
It has reinforced the understanding that age is not a barrier to embarking on new adventures and forging a path that defies conventional expectations. As I stand on the cusp of my 53rd year, I am filled with a sense of gratitude for the opportunities that have come my way and the invaluable lessons that have shaped my journey. I have learned that the pursuit of new dreams and aspirations is not confined by age or circumstance – it is a testament to the boundless potential that resides within each of us. In the words of C.S. Lewis, "You can start a whole new life and set dreams and goals at any age." My experiences serve as a testament to the enduring truth of these words. They stand as a reminder that life is a tapestry of experiences, challenges, and triumphs, and that every new beginning holds the promise of boundless opportunity. As I embrace the year ahead, I am filled with a renewed sense of purpose and a steadfast resolve to continue pursuing my dreams
Have a Happy New Year and Stay Strong!
