It's Everybody Deserves A Massage Week! How to Celebrate with F3

Have you heard of “Everybody Deserves A Massage” Week?

Personally, we think that should be every week, but we’re delighted there’s an annual chance to celebrate the restorative, relaxing, and endorphin-boosting power of massage.

Besides our curated kettlebell training, the biggest thing F3’s known for is our massage services. But why do we focus so much on this one form of wellness bodywork?

Today, let’s explore Everybody Deserves A Massage Week: the history of the celebration, why massage matters, and how to get in on the fun.

What is “Everybody Deserves A Massage” Week?

Since 1995, an organization called the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals has honored the second week after the 4th of July as “Everybody Deserves A Massage” Week. (That’s July 14th-20th for 2024!)

This unique observance promotes the benefits of massage and gives people a chance to explore the magic of bodywork. Massage therapists all over the country offer specialized services, classes, or workshops promoting the health benefits of massage.

#EverybodyDeservesAMassage is a great time to connect with people in your community, like the team at F3 Wellness Connections. It’s perfect for supporting small businesses, forming new business connections, and otherwise experiencing all that the world of massage has to offer.

Why is massage so important for wellness?

In recent years, massage has been presented as a luxury, but we believe EVERYBODY not only deserves a massage, but should be getting a massage at least once per month. The health benefits of massage are spectacular.

LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE

The relaxation techniques in massage help our bodies calm down. Or in other words, our pulse slows, our blood pressure drops, and we drift off in a meditative state. For people who live high-stress, sedentary, or chronically-ill lives, lowered blood pressure can lead to so many health improvements. When your body feels good, your mind does too!

Boosted Endorphins

You know those “happy chemicals” you build up after exercising? Through pressure point and muscle activation, massage creates endorphins, bursts of the chemicals serotonin and dopamine. These chemicals are what our brains need to feel happy, joyful, and content.

Reduced Pain

In addition to endorphins, massage increases oxygen and blood flow to your muscles. This releases tension and lowers pain levels. Massage helps your body boost its own healing powers, putting you closer to feeling 100%.

Important note, though: Make sure you inform your massage therapist of any injuries so they can incorporate healing techniques into their massage. You don’t want a massage to tweak an injured muscle further!

Improved sleep

Besides serotonin and dopamine, massage also encourages the body to release melatonin, a chemical from our pituitary glands that helps us fall asleep, stay asleep, and regulate sleep cycles. The oxygenation and improved blood flow from massage may also improve circadian rhythm, our “internal clock” that determines when it’s time to eat, go to sleep, and wake up. Massage is a great way to improve your sleep as soon as possible.

Reduced headaches and migraines

Chronic migraine sufferers, this one’s for you. Tension is a huge source for headaches and migraines, whether that comes from clenching our jaws, grinding our teeth, sitting hunched up, or any number of tension-producing activities.

Massage not only helps reduce the number of headaches and migraines we get, but it helps lower the pain thresholds for these moments. Migraine treatment often involves fixing up your sleep cycle, too, so the sleep benefits of massage will help you fend off migraines even better.

Relaxation & STRESS RELIEF

Probably the biggest benefit of massage is the way it chills your body out. Stress is a literal killer, linked to heart disease, strokes, and even some forms of cancer. Finding regular relaxation through massage can help you stay in tune with your body and let some of the stresses of the week melt away.

Plus, there’s nothing quite like sinking into the couch like a wet noodle after a massage. And post-massage naps? Don’t get us started on how freakin’ great they are.
